Trip Itinerary Template: A 3-Day Plan by Day
A trip itinerary lists, day by day, the places you will go, how you get from one to the next and where you stay. With one column for each day, side by side, you can see the shape of the whole trip on a single page.
In this template the plans are blue, the travel is yellow and the places to stay are green. Plans and travel alternate, so the days with a lot of travel and the days with a lot of plans are easy to compare.
The example is three days from Tokyo to Kanazawa. The places and times are made up for the example, so look up the real timetables and opening hours before you rely on them. Sketio does not look up or calculate travel times.

What each part does
- Day 1: Arrive
- The heading of a day. Write where you are heading or what the day is for, in a few words.
- Plan
- A blue box: a place to visit or a meal. Start with the time. If the time is not fixed, keep only the order.
- Travel
- A yellow box: how you get to the next place and roughly how long it takes.
- Stay
- A green box: where you sleep that night. The last day ends when you get home.
How to fill it in
- Make one column for each day and write where you are heading in the heading.
- Write the things with a fixed time first, such as hotel check-in and the train or the flight.
- Between them, add the places you want to see as blue boxes.
- Between the places, write how you travel and for how long, as yellow boxes.
- At the end of each day, write where you stay in a green box.
- Compare the days. If one is packed, move a plan to another day.
When to use it
- Sharing the flow of a two or three day trip with the people going with you.
- Lining up the places you want to go and checking that the travel is not too much.
- Sorting out a few days that mix plans and travel, such as a business trip or a visit home.
Common variations
Add a plan for rainy weather
Next to an outdoor plan, write in small letters where you would go if it rains.
Before the destination is decided
If you have not picked where to go yet, compare the candidates with a decision matrix first.
Notes on bookings and luggage
Under the columns, add notes on what is booked and what to bring.
Make it yours
Add or remove columns to match the number of days, then replace the text with your own trip. Three plans a day is an easy number to read.
